Flexible Futures: Balancing Parenthood with Osteopathy Studies at LSO

Finding a balance between parenthood and pursuing further education can feel scary. The demands of caring for a family while also striving for personal and professional growth present unique challenges. At the London School of Osteopathy (LSO), we understand the importance of flexibility in education, particularly for parents who are looking to advance their careers in healthcare.

Our commitment to providing inclusive and adaptable learning options ensures that individuals from all walks of life can continue their educational journey without sacrificing their current important family commitments.

The Challenges of Parenthood and Education

For parents, the decision to further their education is not without its hurdles. Time management can become a juggling act, as responsibilities at home compete with the demands of coursework and study. Depending on which path you choose, financial constraints can add an additional layer of stress, as the cost of tuition and childcare expenses can seem overwhelming.

It’s no secret that furthering your education as a parent can present challenges. However, with the right training provider and a course schedule that suits you – you can excel at being both a parent and a student.

If you’re interested in learning about osteopathy and you’re a parent, we have a range of flexible learning options to suit your schedule. With the ability to switch as needed, we ensure you can continue your education with the London School of Osteopathy without sacrificing your family commitments.

Financial Support

Training can be expensive, and we want to support everyone we can with minimising financial pressures. Each year at the LSO, we provide students with a learning resource bursary worth £400 per year pro rata. In the first year, this means you do not need to cover costs of textbooks, clinical coat and name badge or DBS check. All this is covered as part of your bursary.

Understanding the Need for Flexibility at LSO

At LSO, we recognise the diverse needs of our mature students, including those who are parents or parents-to-be. Our osteopathy courses are designed with flexibility in mind, offering a range of study options to accommodate busy schedules. Whether you prefer part-time study or remote learning, we provide the support and resources necessary to help you succeed when able. Additionally, our dedicated support services are tailored to meet the needs of student parents, ensuring that you feel empowered to pursue your educational goals while caring for your family.

What are the Benefits of Studying with the LSO while Parenting?

Many of our past and present students felt like their career and professional development ground to a halt when they became parents. Training for a new career, whether they worked in healthcare previously or not, empowered them to gain a new sense of purpose and direction in life.

Aside from this, new parents often feel a need to change their careers completely to suit their personal lives.

Studying at LSO offers numerous benefits for parents looking to further their education. With a curriculum built on direct clinical practice and real-world applications, our courses prepare students for success in their chosen field.

Our inclusive learning environment fosters diversity and encourages collaboration among peers from all walks of life. For parents considering a return to work after having children, our flexible study options make it possible to advance your education without putting your career on hold.

Community Support

Community and peer support play a crucial role in the educational journey of student parents. At LSO, we offer a range of initiatives and support networks designed to help student parents build relationships and share experiences.

Life after LSO for Parents

One of the biggest benefits of training to be an osteopath is the opportunities available to you after you qualify. A career in osteopathy can be both rewarding and lucrative. You’ll get the chance to improve the lives of a wide range of patients – from babies to the elderly as well as animals – while fitting work around your family.

Most Osteopaths work in a private practice where earnings can be from £45 – £130 per hour. 5% of osteopaths even earn in excess of £100,000, so as a parent there’s a huge opportunity to earn a great salary while working flexibly and providing for your family.
